My relocation journey: How I got my Canadian PR in 13 months.

Prep Stories by PrepMeWell is a series where members of our community share how they prepared for their proficiency exams, navigated immigration, and took the next step in their journeys to Canada and beyond.

Maybe you already have the language test score you need, but you are not sure what to do next. Or perhaps you have worked with the wrong immigration agent before and now do not know who to trust with something this important.

This is one story you should read to the end.

How did your PR journey begin?

I decided to take my IELTS in June. My friend Doyin practised with me tirelessly, and I ended up scoring an overall 8. She was so excited for me, but honestly, I had no idea what to do next. I told her I would just go with the flow.

She told me she knew someone who was not just good, but the best. KC was her boss, and she promised that if I worked with him, he would not stop until I got my permanent residency.

Those words turned out to be the biggest blessing.

How did KC become part of your journey?

The moment I spoke with him, I felt an immediate sense of relief. He carefully reviewed my profile, asked me detailed questions, and then told me confidently that we could do this. He said my profile was a perfect fit, that I already had what it took, and that he would make sure everything stayed on track.

That assurance meant everything to me because I had no idea how complex the process could get.

What was the first challenge you faced during the process?

With KC’s guidance, I entered the Express Entry pool. He helped me organise my documents, and at one point, he caught something I had completely overlooked: I had not requested my WES evaluation on time. He quickly helped me correct it, ensuring I did not lose valuable time in the process.

Did anything else happen that could have delayed your application?

That is the part that still surprises me. I received my ITA in November, but I did not even notice. I had mistakenly put the wrong email address on my profile, so the notification never reached me.

It was KC who called me, insisting I check. Sure enough, he was right. He helped me correct the mistake immediately and made sure it did not derail my process.

Once you submitted your application, how did the waiting period go?

I submitted my application in January, and that was when the real waiting game began. I got multiple Additional Document Requests (ADRs), and each one felt like a mountain standing in my way.

But at every stage, KC was there. He prepared the right documents, drafted the letters of explanation, and reassured me whenever my heart sank with every new request. He knew the system better than anyone I had ever met, and he never once let me feel like I was in it alone.

What was the toughest obstacle you faced during the entire process?

I received a letter saying I was in debt to the Crown, and I had no idea what that even meant. That was the hardest part of the entire journey.

KC explained that an agent I had previously worked with for a visiting visa had flagged a payment, which left me unknowingly indebted to Canada. It was crushing to read. But once again, KC stood strong. He helped me resolve it, guided me through making the payment, and wrote the letter of explanation that eventually cleared the issue.

How did you feel when you finally received your PPR?

My PPR arrived in July, and the joy and relief I felt in that moment are indescribable. This journey was long, overwhelming, and filled with uncertainty, but what made the difference was that I did not have to walk it alone. KC carried the weight with me. He fought for me. He cared enough to treat my case as though it were his own.

What lesson would you like others to take from your experience?

If you have worked with an agent before, even for something as small as a visiting visa, make sure every payment was completed, and every document was properly filed. An unpaid fee or an incorrectly processed application can come back at the worst possible time.

And find someone who will not give up on you, even when you are ready to give up on yourself. Today, as I hold my PPR in hand, I can say without hesitation that none of this would have been possible without KC. He was more than just an agent. He was my anchor in this storm, and for that, I will forever be grateful.
